Within the context of the Internship of International Program of Postgraduate Studies
(IPPS) entitled “The development of educational skills in special treatment and
education for dealing with problems faced by students with complex cognitive,
emotional and social difficulties and their families”, a case study was conducted
which focused on the investigation of the social skills leisure management on students
with complex cognitive, emotional and social difficulties. The present research refers
to the the case of an 11 year old student with complex cognitive, emotional and social
difficulties attending the general elementary school in the form of co-teaching and in
adults who interact with him. The study was conducted by applying a Targeted
Individual Structured Integrated Special Education Program for students with Special
Educational Needs (TISISEPfSEN) (Drossinou, 2014). The methodology was mixed
and referred to the collection of quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data
were collected through questionnaires using the Likert scale and the qualitative data
were recorded by the researcher’s participant observation. The instruments of
observation included the informal pedagogical assessment through with Checklists of
Based Skills (CBS) (Drossinou, Markakis, Christakis, & Melas, 2009), the
Framework Curricula for Special Education (FCSE), and notes on the general and
specific learning difficulties and the teaching plan (annual, monthly, weekly, daily
curriculum). In addition, the program assessed by the use of the experiment. Under
the assumptions and results of research, it is necessary to introduce the teaching of
social skills in elementary school in conjunction with the integration of leisure
management to address the difficulties of students with complex cognitive, emotional
and social difficulties.
