dc.description.abstracttranslatedThe education of adult prisoners as a means of facing the phenomenon of social exclusion is an important undertaking in the social and punitive policy of a rule of law in order to benefit prisoners as personalities, to reduce the likelihood of relapse and to achieve social peace. In recent years, relevant education and vocational training programs targeting vulnerable social groups have been promoted by the European Union and our country. This work highlights the fact that lifelong learning and training in the punitive environment of prison have a liberating effect and serve as a practical asset for social reintegration and lifting the stigma of the prisoner while demonstrating problematic issues that, with the appropriate handling of competent bodies, can be resolved. A prominent example of the aforementioned is the operation of the Public Vocational Training Institute of the Korydallos Detention Center, the largest detention center in the country; which is also where the survey was conducted. What led the writer to the choice of the particular subject was the frequent contact with detainees, due to the working position as Secretary of the Ordinary Interrogation Department of the Corinthian Court of First Instance, as well as the awareness of the power of learning, being the parent of a minor student. The work is divided into two parts; in Part A there are theories about social exclusion and lifelong learning and education. The first chapter sets out the general context of the issue of the social exclusion of detainees. Specifically, the first chapter presents the concept of social exclusion and its causes, its impact on socially vulnerable groups -and, in particular, that of prison inmates- and sets out the guidelines for reintegration. The second chapter deals with the importance of lifelong learning for detainees. Initially, the definitions of Lifelong Learning and Lifelong Learning are analyzed, followed by the outline of the education of socially vulnerable groups and consequently the prisoners, while the relevant legal framework is defined at both an international and national level and the educational programs within the detention centers are recorded. The second part of the work is specialized in the operation of the Public Vocational Training Institute of the Korydallos Detention Center and the related survey. More specifically, the third chapter presents a brief presentation of the Vocational Training Institute of Korydallos and then outlines the results of the survey, which was conducted based on the interviews with the trainees on the lessons, their relations with the rest of the inmates and the teachers, the educational permits, their participation in other educational programs, and their thoughts on its operation in general. The fourth chapter draws conclusions and suggestions are made regarding the contribution of the components involved to improve the way the institution works, namely the institutional organization of the prison system and the lifelong learning bodies, the social policy for the elimination of social exclusion and the personalities of the prisoners to reduce their relapse.el
