Abstract
Introduction: It is often observed that many recipients of the mental health services network
contact more than one of these services. Similar procedures are repeated, precious time is lost,
early diagnosis and effective treatment are gravely affected.
Aim: To research whether there is a connection between the mental health networking services
or not, as well as the usefulness of organizing such a connection on a more regular basis.
Material & Method: In order to conduct this study, data were taken from the archives of the
first telephone intakes of the mental health care recipients of the “Asklipiion Voulas” Care
Center, a total number of 1.058 mental health services recipients concerning the years 2011,
2012, 2013. The data were taken from May to July 2014. The statistic packet SPSS, vers 21
Windows was used for the statistical analysis of the data.
Results: The age of the participants in the study ranges between 16-93, with 44,11 years old
being the average age. One in three recipients of the studied population had previously
contacted another service or a private mental health professional mainly of a different field. For
63,2% of the recipients there was no connection between the “Asklipiion Voulas” Care Center
and their previous mental health service. Continuation of the cooperation with the Center was
recommended to 81,5% but 38,1% of the recipients stopped and might have contacted another
mental health service.
Conclusion: The non existence of interconnection among the mental health networking services
on a regular basis results in the pointless consumption of human and physical resources of the health system and the distress of its users.
