Abstract
The recent economic crisis of the capitalist mode of reproduction has a huge impact on the welfare of peoples worldwide, but mainly in the population of the European Union. The debt crisis of the European Union, the stiffness of implementing monetary policy and the implementation of contractionary fiscal policies yield rising unemployment, tax increases and therefore a reduction in their consumption possibilities, especially in the countries of southern Europe. Meanwhile, slow growth rates have tightened the above results. The purpose of this dissertation is the literature review of the main causes of the financial crisis, and the main causes of poverty and social inequality that has thrived especially within the European Union. The comparative analysis carried out by secondary data confirm that the welfare of the peoples of Europe has decreased, while poverty and social inequality have increased in the years of crisis.
