Abstract
This thesis examines the dual function of energy sources and natural resources in human societies. Specifically, firstly analyze in what ways and to what extent the energy and natural resources are the driving forces of economic growth and prosperity of states, and also explores the negative dynamics as resultants underdevelopment, conflict and corruption of human society.
The first chapter will analyze the way in which the mining of coal in Britain marked the beginning of the 19th century the start of the Industrial Revolution and made so strong British economy to establish the conditions for the creation of a global economy centered on the British industrial and financial core.
The second chapter will first look at how Britain will impose the terms of free trade in countries like India and China, and its implications for these countries. Then we will see how the need for finding supply markets raw materials industrialized major European powers would lead to the division of Africa into colonies and spheres of influence of Europeans and the results of this "new imperialism" in African countries in economic and social terms.
In the third chapter, we explore the effects of weak governance, which is largely a product of the administrative heritage of the colonial period, in resource-rich African states, the phenomenon which is known as the “resource curse” and characterizes most of them in modern times.
