Abstract
This study illustrates and discusses the findings of a survey conducted on gyms in
Greece on the evaluation of customer-oriented strategies implemented and their effect
on the gyms’ business performance as far as their strategic goals, their development
over time and their competition is concerned. International experience and
bibliography set the implementation frame of this survey, while the questionnaire was
structured according to that of a past survey for the study of customer-oriented
strategies on enterprises. Employees at various posts in the enterprise (both
administrative and non-administrative) were asked to participate in the survey. The
outcome of the statistical analysis on the data collected illustrates that customeroriented
strategies are indeed broadly implemented by fitness clubs in Greece and that
these strategies significantly affect their business performance. The evaluation of
customer-oriented strategies and business performance is found to be determined by
the respondents’ post in the enterprise and the size of the enterprise (the number of its
members etc.), while the parameters of customer-oriented strategies appear to be
strongly correlated pairwise. Apart from the survey findings and the conclusions
drawn, the study also includes a detailed reference to the survey implementation
stages, as well as proposals for future surveys on similar subject.
