| el |

dc.description.abstracttranslated | It is widely known that education consists* one of the most valuable values for people evolution. For this reason it should be universal and inviolable right for all people. Although even if we are going through the 21st century there still exist communities of people like Roma who, due to their principles and their culture or the weakness of the educational system to respond to their special needs they decide not to sign up to school at all or they abandon it to early before they complete the third grade of high school. This situation has, as a result, their not being able to claim the formal qualifications into the labor market. As a consequence they face crucial financial and social problems.
The present research was carried out in the municipality of Nafpaktia. It was addressed to Roma parents who have children whose age is among 6-15. The Roma parents were asked to answer questions regarding the education of their children and the school drop out phenomenon. The research tool that it was used is the semi- structured interview. The main result which turns out from the interview is that Roma parents decide to send their children to school not because they are forced by the state but because they believe that school constitutes an opportunity for their children, through which they will have the chance to be educated, to study at the university, to find a job and generally to obtain a better living standard than they themselves have. | el |
